In keeping with our mission to discover, nurture and promote vocal talent, Phoenix Opera is pleased to present the Second Annual Southwest Vocal Competition, generously sponsored by the Mayo Clinic Voice Program in Arizona! Their mission to bring the art and science of medicine to the performing arts community and passion to care for professional vocalists has truly transformed this competition into a 'Showcase of Excellence in Voice and Vocal Health.
ELIGIBILITY: Residents or students attending an Institution of Higher Education in the Southwestern states of Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah; Ages 21 - 35 as of February 6, 2016.
THE COMPETITION: The Competition consists of two Preliminary Rounds, a special Master Class, and will culminate in a juried Finals Concert at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix, where contestants will compete for fabulous cash prizes!
Forty contestants will compete in the First Round. Contestants will receive special instruction in healthy vocal techniques by health professionals from the Mayo Clinic Voice Program during this round of the competition. Twenty contestants will advance to the Second Round... only Ten will advance to the Finals Concert. The names of our finalists will be announced after the Master Class. Each finalist will then compete for fabulous cash prizes and perform with Phoenix Opera Orchestra under the baton of Maestro John Massaro at the Orpheum Theatre in front of a live audience and our distinguished panel of judges. Winners will be announced immediately following the concert from the stage.

Second Place: $3,000, Third Place: $2,000, Fourth Place: $1,000. If all ten finalists are of the same gender, the first place cash award will double to $10,000. All remaining finalists who perform in the Finals Concert will each receive a $500.00 cash award.
